Professional Ed

Practicing Institute of Engineering (PIE)

New York State Education Department

Overview for Mandatory Continuing Education

Continuing Proficiency Competency

CPC, what does it mean?

Professional Engineers shall accrue 36 continuing education credits over a three-year period to maintain their license.  Engineers can earn credits by attending formal courses of study, lecturing, and writing professional articles, books, or patents.

The intent of the requirement is to keep practicing professionals up to date with changes in technology, and to inspire sharing experiences and education. Licensed professional engineers and land surveyors work in a world of evolving technology, increased consumer expectations and other emerging issues. Practice in this changing environment requires ongoing development of knowledge and skills. It is critical that licensees remain current with changes and developments in the profession to render quality services and to ensure public protection.

So that we can offer approved continuing education seminars, the Capital District Chapter has become a program organization through the Practicing Institute of Engineering (PIE)
